Winter Holiday Sampler #130, The Victoria Sampler

“Fresh snow blankets the hillside Snowballs fly through the air, Sleighbells are merrily ringing, Holiday fun everywhere...!”  

A sampler for the whole winter! I was inspired by the Holiday Season but this beautiful sampler can be stitched and enjoyed all winter long. In this sampler, between bands of specialty stitches, flowers, and snowy white lace, people of all ages are shown playing and enjoying themselves outdoors; skiing on a high mountain, throwing snowballs, skating, and sleighing. We never seem to get enough snow on the west coast, and when I think of winter, I always hope for a few days of snow. I can then sit with my stitching in my favorite chair by the fire, and dream and stitch away by my window overlooking the fields and trees covered with a white sparkly blanket. Everything always looks so beautiful! I love to see people all bundled up in colourful hats and coats, as they come out of their houses to play in the snow. The sampler is designed on a beautiful stormy grey fabric and I used colourful silks and overdyes to create an atmosphere of fun and excitement. I know you’ll have fun stitching this after your winter excursions, or on those precious winter mornings by a sunny window! I hope that this sampler will remind you of the glorious fun, happiness and beauty of the winter season!
