New Jersey is the 3rd State represented in our Series of Floral State Hearts as it was the third colonial state to ratify the federal Constitution on December 18th, 1787. On the upper right of the heart, you'll find the lovely purple Violet, designated as State Flower in 1913, although at the time, the sunflower received the most votes! New Jersey's beautiful yellow American Goldfinch is shown on the upper right, while below the lettering, a lovely garden is shown, symbolizing the nickname of the state: The Garden State. The origin of this name can be traced back to Benjamin Franklin, and Abraham Browning, who referred to New Jersey as large barrel full of good things to eat and open at both ends, both New York and Pennsylvanians eating form it's agricultural produce. The Cushion Stitches in pale green, represent the residential communities in this state.
