Saint Nicholas Standup & Ornament, Curtis Boehringer

$16.00

This is the third in a series of Santas from the Olde World. Saint Nicholas' benevolence grew in the world of Christianity. Being a protector of the innocent and of children, people began calling him Saint.

On December 6, 343 he died. The people of Myra built him a beautiful tomb. Legend has it that after a few years the tomb began leaking a viscous liquid, perfumed with myrrh. This liquid healed the sick and made blind men see. Hundreds of people were healed by this.

During the crusades in 1082, Saint Nicholas' body was removed to Bari, Italy. (Kidnapped, really) The people of Bari built him a huge and elaborate cathedral. Every year they re-enact his entombment into the cathedral.

Through this series of leaflets, we will explore the folklore and history of these Santas, in word and design.

In the fourth leaflet, we will go to England, and we will learn about Father Christmas.
