Hardanger embroidery has its origins in the Hardanger district on the west coast of Norway, where the population cultivated flax in the valleys of the Hardanger fjord. The women used the processed and treated linen for blouses and aprons from which was originally made with white linin thread on linen as right-angled patterns in "Kloster blocks". Today, cotton material is most often used which is embroidered with pearl cotton. Pattern book.
