Montana is the 41st State represented in our Series of Floral State Hearts as it was the forty-first state to ratify the federal Constitution on November 8, 1889. This design features Bitterroot, a beautiful delicate pink flower, designated as the State Flower in 1895, over the Wild Rose, or the Evening Primrose. The Western Meadowlark is the official state bird of the Big Sky Country of Montana. Under the meadowlark, the Foliage Stitch represents the Blue bunch Wheatgrass, the state grass of Montana. This grass protrudes above the snows in the fall and spring for the range-free cattle, upon which the state economy depends. The double Twill Stitch represents the Mountains and Sky of this picturesque state. Finally, the apple at the bottom of the heart represents the Ponderosa Pine, an enormous tree and the official Tree of Montana.
